Om Kyle Marquardt

Presentation

Kyle is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015; he also holds an AM in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia from Harvard University (2009), and a BA in from Grinnell College (2005). His dissertation research was supported by the National Science Foundation and the Fulbright-Hays Program, and he has published articles in Social Science Quarterly, Nationalities Papers and Central Asian Survey.

Forskningsområde

Identity politics, civil conflict and separatism, Bayesian methodology, Eurasia, survey experiments, latent variable analysis.

Nuvarande forskning

Kyle’s main focus at the V-Dem Institute is developing methods to aggregate expert coder data, a task that includes analysis of self-reported uncertainty and hierarchical latent variables. In addition to this line of research, Kyle is also working on a book manuscript that uses both content analysis and survey data to assess the relationship between language, identity and separatism.
