Ph.D. Programme

The aim of the Ph.D. Programme is to enable students to conduct high quality research in political science. The central component in the Ph.D. education is to complete an academic dissertation. A Ph.D. in political science can be of use for further research activities, for teaching at various levels, and for a career as a political or social analyst or in public policy.

Our programme emphasizes the need for broad training in the theoretical and empirical cores of the discipline and we stress the importance of methodological pluralism.

The Ph.D. Programme is closely integrated with the research carried out in the department. Our primary research areas include elections and electoral behavior, public opinion and democracy, public policy and public administration, political theory, international politics, European politics, the politics of gender and environmental politics. Nationally, our department is either the leading department, or among the leading departments, in each of these research areas. Much of our research also compares favorably in an international perspective.
