Study conditions and degrees

The double degree studies will involve study in four semesters (two years). Students will undertake studies at both universities - year one at the University of Konstanz, and year two at the University of Gothenburg. At both universities, the language of instruction will be English. The total study load comes out at 120 ECTS.

Study conditions

When applying you choose in-between three different programs:

  • Master’s Programme of International Administration and Global Governance
  • Master´s Programme of Political Science
  • Master’s Programme of European Studies*

*Please note that it’s not possible to choose the Masters programme of European Studies with a Humanity track for a double degree.

Successful graduates will receive two Master degree certificates, one from each university specifying what courses have been completed at each of the two universities.

The two Master's degree certificates are equivalent to the Master's degree in the countries of the partner universities as follows:

Sweden: Master of Science MSc.

Germany: Master of Arts MA.

Each university is responsible for issuing its own degree certificate confirming the qualification accompanied by a detailed record of study (e.g. diploma supplement) keyed to the programme requirements. Students must apply for each final certificate at the University of Gothenburg and at the University of Konstanz and submit a transcript of records to the respective examination offices.

To get the two degrees you are not allowed to change specialization during the programme, neither are you allowed to change campus. The first year is required to be in Konstanz, and the second year in Gothenburg.

The final examination

The study programmes are concluded by a defense of the MA thesis. This consists of a presentation of the thesis’ findings and a discussion of the thesis. This takes place year two in Gothenburg in the 4th semester. The substance of the MA colloquium course at Konstanz University corresponds to substance of the master thesis courses at the University of Gothenburg.
