Facing Europe’s challenges

Europe is facing challenges, both now and in the future. Important questions include: what happens to European cohesion and democratic values when prosperity gaps increase and countries come under pressure of increased migration? Does Europe continue to prioritize being globally competitive, or does it become a pioneer in sustainable development? And how do conflicts on the borders of Europe, and the dependence on oil and gas give rise to new security risks?

Our way of meeting these challenges is through research and education, but we also recognize a need for collaboration between policy-makers, the public, and universities. To this end, we are starting a new Executive Masters programme in European Studies (EMAES). In this program a select group of 20 students who are all professionally active in the area of European Affairs will meet both each other and our teachers and researchers, working together to address important European issues and bringing their new knowledge back into society.

Since the challenges facing Europe have such complexity, the need for multidisciplinary research and education is greater than ever before. EMAES is an academic programme that lives up to the demands of a changing European landscape, as it is firmly grounded in a complete multidisciplinary academic environment, which successfully combines research, teaching, and outreach.
