Job and career

After studying at the Department of Political Science you have many different opportunities when looking for a job. We have interviewed some of our alumni and asked them where they work and how they entered the job market.

Most alumni have jobs

In 2018 an alumni survey was sent out from the Department to 510 alumni. 263 responded to the survey, giving a response rate of 52 per cent.

The results show that 69 per cent of our alumni have jobs, 18 per cent have continued to study and 4 per cent are job seekers. 47 per cent have permanent employment – 41 per cent in the public sector and 28 per cent in the private sector. 24 per cent work abroad.

Examples of professions include: executing officer, coordinator, investigator, communications professional, consultant and committee secretary. The most common employers are the City of Gothenburg, the University of Gothenburg and the Swedish Migration Board.

34 per cent of the respondent alumni started their jobs before completing their studies. Those who did internships found jobs faster.

Alumni portrait

Ever since Bo Dohmen graduated from the Master's Programme in European Studies in 2017 she has been working at the lobby organization Europa Insights in Brussels. Doing an internship while studying was very useful as networks and contacts made the job searching much more easily. Take part of the interview here, Bo got her job in Brussels rather quick after graduating
