The new GU card will be launched on November 25

News: Nov 12, 2019

Since the new card is based on a completely new system, all old GU cards at the university must be replaced during spring 2020.

All employees and all students with an active student account will be able to order the new GU card from November 25. All old GU cards must be replaced within around six months, after that they will stop working.

Your old GU card can be used for now if the date on the card is still valid. However, after November 25, you cannot update the valid date of the old card anymore.

Benefits of the new GU card

The new system means simpler administration and easier procedures for both users and administrators.

You order your new GU card in an order portal and upload your own photo to your card. You can either choose an existing photo or take a new one with your mobile camera when ordering.

You then choose at which Servicecenter you want to pick up your card, and when the card is ready for pickup you will receive a message to the e-mail address connected to your x account.

You do not have to update the valid date on the new GU card, it is valid for as long as you are employed at the university. You only need to visit a Servicecenter when picking up your card.

The functions of the GU card are the same as before.

To consider with the old GU card

The old GU card will continue to work until you pick up your new card, provided that the validity of the card has not expired. The valid date is marked at the bottom of the card by year/month.

If you have an existing GU card that expires soon, it might be a good idea to prolong your card in a Servicecenter before November 25. After that date, no old GU cards will be prolonged and you need to order your new card immediately to get access in the access system.

If you have an old card without a valid date printed on it, you can wait to order a new card until further notice as new routines for external cards are being developed.

To order the new GU card

From November 25, you will find information about the new GU card, and a link to the GU card portal where you order your card, via an entry under Service & support in the Staff Portal. A link to the pages will also be available from Profile & settings in the top menu under your name when you are logged into the portal.

Information about the new card is also found under the GU card project website:
