Associate Professor (tenured, docent) in the Department of Political Science

Research interests

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science. My research focuses on:

- global variation in historical patterns of gender equality, such as early household formation patterns to establish whether countries’ achievements in quality of government today can be rooted in these early patterns of equality;

- whether the political empowerment of women improves quality of government and through which mechanisms the influence operates;

- the variation in democracies’ efforts to develop institutions, rights and policies that empower gender diversity.

- the effects of growth in women’s political representation on women’s political knowledge, political engagement, and beliefs concerning women’s suitability as political leaders;

- the international women’s movement and institutional solutions to cultural challenges to women’s empowerment;

- gender inequality and political attitudes and participation;

- how gender impacts political institutions and actors.

I have published on these and related topics in several peer-reviewed journals including International Organization, Comparative Politics, the European Sociological Review, Gender and Society, Public Choice and Politics and Gender.
