The General Research Seminar (RSP)

The seminar in International Politics (IP)

Chair: Adrian Hyde-Price.

At this seminar we discuss issues relating to both international and global politics. The seminar convenes four times every semester. Normally, we have paper presentations from both the department and from researchers from other parts of Europe. Usually, the seminar discusses a paper that has been pre-circulated by the guest. The paper could be a project plan, an application, or an outline for an article. And sometimes we also discuss published articles and books.

The Public Administration and Public Policy seminar (PAPP)

Chair: Carl Dahlström.

In this seminar we discuss research about public administration and public policy. The papers presented are often comparative, either over time or cross-cases. Normally, we have a mix of presenters from the department and guests from other institutions. Usually, we meet once a month during semesters. The seminars are one and a half hour, from 13.15 to 14.15, and we are often in room B340 on Sprängkullsgatan 19.

The Research Seminar for Practical Philosophy and Political Theory (PPPT)

Chairs: Henrik Friberg-Fernros.

The Research Seminar for Practical Philosophy and Political Theory is University of Gothenburg’s venue for discussion of ethical and meta-ethical research. The seminar is co-arranged by the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science and the Department of Political Science. The seminar assembles about thirty scientists and convenes at the two departments alternately. At the seminars arranged by the Department of Political Science, the main focus of discussion is normative political theory, i.e., research that investigates the justification of political phenomena. The usual setup is that the seminar discusses a paper that have been pre-circulated by the guest.

VOD-seminar (Elections, Opinions and
Democracy )

Chairs: Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson och Maria Solevid.

The workshop on Elections, Opinions and Democracy covers a wide array of topics. We welcome presentations about research on elections, voter behavior, political parties, political participation, citizens' opinions, media, campaigns and how different political systems affect all of the just mentioned phenomenons. The research presented can study individuals, elections or parties in one country or region or be comparative at the micro level, macro level or party/election level or be focused on specific cases and events.

Quality of Government Lunch Seminars (QoG)

Chair: Monika Bauhr.

The QoG Institute arranges seminars related to research on Quality of Government, broadly defined as trustworthy, reliable, impartial, uncorrupted and competent government institutions. The seminars address the theoretical and empirical problem of how political institutions of high quality can be created and maintained as well as the effects of Quality of Government on a number of policy areas, such as health, the environment, social policy, and poverty.

The QoG institute invites speakers from the international research community and experts from NGOs and other organizations to the lunch seminars. The seminars last for one hour and include a short presentation by the speaker (30-35 min) followed by a joint discussion about the topic.

V-Dem Lunch Seminars

Chair: Staffan I. Lindberg.

The V-Dem Institute organizes a series of seminars focusing on democracy issues. International researchers and parts of the V-Dem Global Team come to the V-Dem Institute to present their research.

The seminars focuses on violence in connection with elections in democratic countries, the stability of the party system in new democracies, democratic and authoritarian regimes and differences between democracies. The seminars last for about an hour and begin with a short presentation of the speaker (30-35 min), followed by a general discussion about the subject.

The department´s Party Research Program arranges seminars related to political parties.
