Anders Sundell

Research interests

In my dissertation I studied the process by which corruption decreased in the Swedish public administration during primarily the 19th century. The results points to it being a gradual and incremental process, not being caused by any concentrated push.

Currently I am engaged in a project on political succession together with Andrej Kokkonen, funded by the Swedish research council. Our hypothesis is that in autocracies, unplanned or ill-devised succession arrangements increase the risk of political instability, in the forms of coup d'etats, rebellions and civil war.
