I work as a senior lecturer at the Department of Political Science and as a principial investigator at the SOM institute (www.som.gu.se). I'm also a member of the Swedish National Election Studies Program (www.valforskning.pol.gu.se). Together with Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson, I’m the chair of the Elections, Opinion and Democracy workshop at the Department of Political Science.
I was awarded my Ph.D. in political science in 2009 from University of Gothenburg on a doctoral thesis titled “Voices from the Welfare State. Dissatisfaction and Political Action in Sweden”.
My primary fields of interest include political behavior, public opinion and political psychology. My research focuses on political participation, both electoral and non-electoral participation. I have a general interest in how perceptions of government (such as policy dissatisfaction or percpetions of corruption) affect political participation, the issue of political inequality in political participation, and how political participation varies across generations. I also have great interest in survey methodology.
I'm currently involved in the project "The politics of anxiety" (project leader Lena Wängnerud). In this project, we investigate why there are differences in levels of anxiety between men and women and what the consequences of anxiety on political behavior are. I'm also involved in article projects investigating the effects of corruption on turnout.
From 2017, I will also do research within AgeCap and more specifically, my research will focus on capability and political participation among senior citizens.
Within my work as a principal investigator at the SOM Institute, I headed the SOM survey to expartriated Swedes in 2014 and will head the local SOM survey in Gothenburg 2016/17. Within these project, I'm, interested in political participation among expatriated Swedes as well as local political participation in Gothenburg.
I primarily teach within the master program in political science. Since 2007, I’m the course coordinator of the master's course ”Applied Statistical Analysis” (SF2321). I’m member of the thesis examiner committee on the undergraduate level in political science. I also work as advisor of both bachelor and master thesis within my fields of interest.
