Ph. D. and senior lecturer in Political Science. I defended my thesis ”At the Command of God. On the Political Linkage of Islamist Parties” in 2004. I was previously employed at the School of Global Studies and the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), Lund University.
My main research interest covers EU’s democracy promotion in the Mediterranean, and democratic processes in primarily Turkey and Jordan.
Presently, I am developing a research project on the basis of the results of my book ”European Union and its Mediterranean Neighbours” (Routledge, 2013). I am also working together with our Turkish guest Ph D-student Emine Bademci on two publications about Turkey.
From 1 January, I am Assistant Director of Studies, responsible for the teacher's programme at the Department of Political Science. I also teach at the teacher’s programme, where I am responsible for the course "Steering, organisation and assessment" and in social sciences, where I am responsible for the courses "Democracy in theory and practice" and "Methodology".
Further, I participate in two courses at the Master programme in European Studies, and I have supervised and examined a large number of master's and bachelor's theses.
