PhD, Senior Lecturer.

Areas of interest

My main research interest is welfare politics and policy. I am also interested in welfare opinion and the correlation between public policy and public opinion. My current research project concerns the organisation of welfare services with focus on the current market-oriented reforms of the Swedish welfare service sector. My dissertation treated the subject of individual autonomy within the welfare state. A former research project concerned how the principle of justice was expressed in political decisions about how the Swedish social insurance administration should be organised. Another research project concerned local democracy and the question if the change of political majority in a local community makes any difference for local politics.

Current research

My current research project (Freedom of choice or political control? Swedish Parties’ ideas of Welfare State Organisation) concerns the changes of the welfare state towards increased privatisation of welfare services and increased freedom of choice for citizens. The empirical part of the project focuses on the current Swedish reforms of the welfare service sector. In the project, party political cleavages concerning the organisation of welfare services are analyzed both on national and local level. The theoretical question concerns how internal party cohesion is affected by these cleavages. Within the project, I also analyze the possible connection between public policy and public opinion within the context of the changing character of the welfare service sector.

Teaching and tutoring

I have worked as a course coordinator and teacher in Political science courses as well as courses that the department of Political Science gives within the Programmes for Teacher Training at the University of Gothenburg.
