About Lisbeth Aggestam

Presentation

Lisbeth Aggestam is associate professor in political science at the Department of Political Science and Centre for European Research (CERGU), University of Gothenburg. She received her PhD in political science at the University of Stockholm in 2005. She held a lectureship at the University of Bath (UK) between 2008-2013. Prior to that she was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Cambridge, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) and a Chevening scholar at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford.

Aggestam is a member of the editorial board of the ISA journal Foreign Policy Analysis.

Research interests

Aggestam works in the field of International Relations and Foreign Policy Analysis. Her main research interests are:

• Comparative national and European foreign policy
• The European Union as a global actor and power
• Sociological role theory and political leadership
• Ethics in international relations

Current research

Aggestam is currently working on a research project entitled The Leadership Paradox in EU Foreign Policy funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (Swedish Foundation for the Humanities and Social Sciences) for the period 2015-2017. 

Teaching

Aggestam teaches in the field of International Relations, Foreign Policy Analysis and European Studies. She convenes two courses at the Department of Political Science and the Centre for European Studies:

EU2215: Europe in the World (MA 15 hec)
SK 1136: Foreign Policy Analysis (UG 7,5 hec)

Aggestam supervised two PhD students to completion when working at the University of Bath, UK. In Sweden, Aggestam supervises two PhD students: Ketevan Bolkvadze (University of Gothenburg) and Elsa Hedling (University of Lund).

Aggestam has written and edited 3 books and over 30 journal articles and book chapters. Her most recent publication is:
