Information for students' employers

Businesses, governmental agencies, and organisations are increasingly often faced with complex problems, caused by the economic, judicial, social and political development in Europe. At the same time, the need for handling issues in a competent and speedy manner has probably never been greater. These two developments taken together pose new demands for highly developed analytical skills among both employers and employees, and a need for a new form of higher education, aimed at those that are already professionally active. In order to fulfil this need the Centre for European Studies (CES) at the University of Gothenburg has developed a new Executive Master in European Studies (EMAES). The program was initiated by the Council for European Studies, whose prominent members include among others Cecilia Malmström, Christian Leffler, Jerker Stattin, and Mikaela Kumlin Granit.

EMAES is studied on part-time and online, so that participants can remain professionally active while studying. The teaching and assignments are designed to allow flexibility, so that participants can study at times convenient to them. A highly qualified teaching staff and a well-developed close collaboration with representatives from the public sector, business, and interest organisations guarantees a high quality academic education that is also closely linked to the working life.

By having your employee attending EMAES you will gain access to an advanced, modern academic education that is both closely tied to current research, and based on the needs of working life. The participant will gain a Master’s degree at the end, as well as new knowledge and skills, and access to a unique network through the other participants. The programme offers the opportunity for participant to apply theory and methods to current issues from their work place. In particular, when the students choose a topic for their Master thesis they are encouraged to take the needs of their workplace into account.

EMAES does not have any tuition fees, but there are some associated costs since participants have to travel to Gothenburg at seven occasions over the two-year programme period. We also require that you as an employer endorse the application of your employee, indicating that you support their participation in the programme and that you have reached an agreement that will make it practically possible for the employee to combine studying and working.
